Craig Chappell

Head of North Somerset Football

Craig has been coaching 18 years, and set up North Somerset 8 years ago to help talented players in the region be given opportunities to be recognised by professional football clubs. Craig has worked as academy coach at Bristol Rovers FC & Cardiff City FC & more recently has had recruitment roles for Southampton FC, Bristol City and is currently working in a recruitment role for Bristol Rovers FC. During Craig‘s playing career as a school boy he was signed by Bristol City & Swansea City. Craig trialled as a youngster with Man City, Liverpool, WBA, Blackburn Rovers & Preston North End. Craig was invited to join TeamBath at 18 years old and took part in a football scholarship which allowed him to gain HND qualification in Sports Performance & Coaching Education at University of Bath.

Lukasz Cabaj

Lukasz’s background includes working with professional clubs from his native Poland & in Germany. Lukasz is a very experienced and knowledgeable coach who now also works with our team of coaches to ensure they always keep improving & developing whilst also delivering sessions to our talented players. Lukasz’s sessions are always very demanding, challenging and high tempo. Lukasz as a player has played Conference level in Poland.

Jake Pickles

Pre-Academy Manager

FA LEVEL 2 qualified Coach

Jake began coaching junior football at grass roots level with Weston Crusaders u8’s in 2013. He is still with them today at u12’s. Wanting to push himself on to the next level he started as an assistant with NS in 2014. Jake has worked his way up to be head coach of u12’s Yellows and also coaches our u9’s on a Monday night. Jake is now a full time football coach, working for both NS and a local college Football Academy. He is currently working towards his Youth module level 3 and is looking to begin his UEFA B Licence by the end of the year.

Russell Cox

FA LEVEL 2 qualified Coach

Russell Cox has worked as a professional sports coach in the UK and America for the past 12 years, including working for Local FA’s, schools, colleges and sports clubs. He’s worked in many schools not only as a football coach but as a multi sports coach. In 2008 he set up his own sports company in 2008 after gaining experience for other sports companies in senior coaching roles. Russell is a firm believer in making sessions fun whilst testing players to the best of their ability. Russell is head coach of our u14 Yellows.

In the last 4 years I have completed my Level 1, Level 2 and my UEFA B license coaching badges. I have also completed youth module level 1, 2 and 3 in these years. I have gained experience in coaching football from toddlers 18 months to 5, I have also coached all age groups from u6 to u18 in the 4 years. I currently work for North Somerset at foundation phase age group, I also work for Bristol City academy as a youth development phase coach I am the head coach for a local college where I work with u18 boys for over 12 hours a week.

Lucy Chappell

Accounts Manager

Lucy works behind the scenes to ensure smooth running of North Somerset, paying staff, invoices & organising fund raising opportunities for tours.  Lucy is an integral part of the team & point of contact for parents & staff for non football related matters.


Steve Arney

Football Secretary

Football mad administrator who prides himself on a high standard of work delivered in an organised manner and on-time if not before!

His role covers just about everything on the admin side including:

FA Affiliations.
Staff CRC’s, Child Safeguarding and First Aid renewals,
Disciplinary issues and appeals.
JPL Admin ticket match confirmations.
JPL Player Registrations.
Liaise with managers and coaches regarding venues and kick off times for our 11 Junior Premier League squads.

He also currently carries out a similar role for Clevedon United FC who have three adult teams competing in the Somerset County and Weston & District football leagues.

Best football moments –

  1. Watching our North Somerset FD then U14’s win the National JPL Futsal tournament final in Birmingham back in January 2015. A fantastic effort from all involved.
  1. The Arsenal Invincible’s season of 2003-04 an achievement which is likely to remain unique for many years to come.
